British Paralympic Association - Table Tennis
Britain came away with two gold and three silver medals from the Polish Open Table Tennis Championships last weekend.
Bridgend’s Neil Robinson beat France’s Yann Guilheim in the Class 3 finals to take gold, having already beaten Germany’s Jan Guertler in the semi-final.
British teenagers Will Bayley and David Wetherill then followed this up with a victory in the class 6/7 combined team event.
Nineteen year-old Will and 17-year-old David beat the current class 6 European Champions Demark in their second successive tournament to take the title. This success follows their recent gold medal in the class 6 team event at the Solvenian Open.
In the singles competition Will Bayley continued his good form by reaching the class 6 final where he played world no.2 Peter Rosenmeier from Denmark. Will had beaten Rosenmeier in the earlier rounds, but he could not repeat the success and had to settle for silver.
Neil Robinson followed up his gold in the individual competition by teaming up with James Rawson in the Class 3 team event to win silver. The pair lost in the final to the German team.
There was also silver for Sara Head and Jane Campbell in the team competition after they lost 3-2 against a combined French/Irish team in the final.
The Polish Open Table Tennis Championships took place in Wladyslawowo, Poland from June 27 to July 1, 2007.
