| Description: | Cimbing steep snow from the glacier to the summit ridge with the Annapurna range behind. High camp is the other side of the crevassed glacier, quite entertaining on the way back in the dark with failing headtorches in a thunderstorm! |

| Comments: | There is a really scary follow up to this photo too! In an attempt to get everyone to the summit we "lingered" rather longer than we had planned. The result was that we had to cross the glacier behind the climber in the dark with a thunderstorm for good measure. You can see how crevassed the glacier is, and there were many more hidden ones too. I was on the back of a rope of 4, and every time a person jumped a crevass it got wider, so by the time it came to me they were right on my jumping limit! I didn't quite make one of them and ended up hammering my ice axe and crampons into the crevass wall in a desperate attempt to stop dragging everyone else in with me. I just managed it and got out OK, but that moment when I knew I wasn't going to make the other side is the most terrified I've ever been! Comment by johnloguk on 29th May 2007 That just sums up why I don't go climbing. Had to watch "Touching the Void" from behind the sofa. But interesting choices there cut the rope and survive or fall together. Climbing seems to throw up no win situations. I love this picture. As it totally sums up for me climbing. Vast terrian very scary staggeringly high peaks and the frailty (no disrespect) of the individual in comparison. Its nature or the cosmos saying "look I know you think you're smart - but don't mess" we're a lot bigger than you'll ever be. Respect.
