| Description: | So near and yet so far. We kept looking longingly at the relatively easy section remaining to the summit, but we had to wait for everyone else to reach the ridge. By the time they were up we had run out of time and the weather was closing in. |

| Comments: | It wasn't climbing etiquette, just an agreement we made earlier in the day before we realised how critical time was going to get. Some major expeditions are riddled with conflict fueled by big egos, but we were all friends so there was no competition between us in that way. The other factor is that actual fitness doesn't always count for anything, as we all acclimatise to altitude differently. You can also feel rough on a particular day for no apparent reason too, so it pays to be generous to each other in case you need their support at some point. I was lucky that I felt really great that day, and at the time did get a bit frustrated looking up at that ridge and thinking "I could be up there in 30 minutes", but in the scheme of things it didn't matter in the end. We were just glad to get back down OK and live to fight another day. My tent companion was also very strong that day, but the following night he was up with stomach cramps for hours, there is so much luck in these things. Best to try and stay philosphical! is there a form of climbing etiquette then - like After you Edmund I insist - I am presuming that for safety sake you can't all be climbing at the same time - sorry to be naive about this but it seems a bit tough on you guys to have to wait for everyone else
